Update from the Legislature – April 27, 2022

The legislature is in session this week.

Bill 21, the Red Tape Reduction Statutes Amendment Act, 2022, was introduced on April 25. The bill seeks to amend a number of pieces of legislation, including a change Local Authorities Election Act that would require municipalities to redact personal information of candidates and donors from candidate disclosure statements before they are made public. The legislation also proposes minor changes to the Municipal Government Act including permitting intermunicipal business licences and expediting the approval process for Community Revitalization Levy bylaws.

Alberta Municipalities is reviewing Bill 21 and will provide further information to members on any substantive amendments in the coming weeks.
