Seconding a resolution for 2020 Convention

AUMA’s updated Resolutions Policy requires a resolution that is sponsored by a single member’s council to be seconded by another member’s council.

Once a seconding council has passed a motion endorsing a sponsoring council’s resolution, administration can send an email or letter to the sponsoring municipality confirming this endorsement. The endorsement motion and meeting date should be included in this communication.

When a sponsoring municipality submits their resolution to AUMA, copies of documentation confirming their own council’s endorsement, along with a seconding council’s endorsement, must be included.

AUMA extended the deadline for submission of resolutions from May 31 to June 30 to provide members with extra time to prepare resolutions for the 2020 Convention, and to complete the necessary council endorsements.

The format of the of the 2020 Convention is yet to be determined. AUMA staff are closely monitoring the directions from all levels of government related to the COVID-19 pandemic and will continue to consider and develop a plan for the event over the coming weeks.

Check out AUMA’s 2020 Resolutions Guide and Template for guidance on preparing a resolution. Members are encouraged to reach out to advocacy [at] auma.ca (AUMA staff) for assistance and/or submit resolutions early so we can ensure each resolution meets the criteria set out in our Resolutions Policy.
