Save the Date: Announcing More Workshops on Canada’s History and the Municipal Role in Reconciliation

Do you want to learn more about the history of Indigenous peoples in Canada? Are you looking for guidance on how your municipality can support reconciliation? Then block your calendar for this upcoming workshop.

Through our commitment to reconciliation, Alberta Municipalities and the Rural Municipalities of Alberta are partnering again to host eight more virtual workshops that will explore how past government policies have defined today’s relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples. The workshop will provide municipal leaders with a deeper understanding of:

  • Canada’s history of government policies and their effects on First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.
  • The lessons learned from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada and the 94 Calls to Action.
  • Indigenous intersectionality and guidance on terminology.
  • Common myths and how unconscious bias continues to contribute to misconceptions, prejudices, and stereotyping of Indigenous peoples.
  • Practical steps municipal governments can take to advance reconciliation and create inclusive workspaces.

Who can attend?

This workshop is open to municipal elected officials and municipal staff.
