Only Four Sessions Left: How Your Municipality Can Support Reconciliation

Is your municipality looking to better inform staff or council about the history of Indigenous peoples in Canada? Are you looking for tips to support reconciliation? Then, sign up for one of our upcoming workshops!

Alberta Municipalities and the Rural Municipalities of Alberta are co-hosting several virtual workshops that will explore how past government policies have defined today’s relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples. Workshops will provide municipalities with a deeper understanding of:
•    Canada’s history of government policies and their effects on First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.
•    The lessons learned from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada and the 94 Calls to Action.
•    Indigenous intersectionality and guidance on terminology.
•    Common myths and how unconscious bias continues to contribute to misconceptions, prejudices, and stereotyping of Indigenous peoples.
•    Practical steps municipal governments can take to advance reconciliation and create inclusive workspaces.

About the Facilitator
Roy Pogorzelski is Métis from Saskatchewan. His family comes from the communities of Green Lake, Meadow Lake and Batoche. Roy is a former inclusion consultant for the City of Lethbridge and was the co-chair of the community-led reconciliation sub-committee that developed the City of Lethbridge’s 10-year Reconciliation Implementation Plan.
