Alberta Recycling Management Authority Updates: ePilot, Household Hazardous Waste, and Paint Programs

Alberta Recycling Management Authority (ARMA) is hosting two webinars updating municipalities on the ePilot, Household Hazardous Waste (HHW), and the Paint programs:

  • On December 2, 2021, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., participants will hear the latest updates on the ARMA ePilot, including the data collected so far. Updates will also be provided on the tire program, including the truck tire fee adjustment, new processes, and improving service levels ensuring tire collection before the winter rush. Details on the used oil program updates will also be shared, including the potential expansion of materials accepted under the program.
  • On December 9, 2021, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., ARMA will provide updates to the paint program, including bin replacement program and information on keeping costs down for municipalities accepting HHW. The webinar will end with a presentation from Cleanfarms about agricultural waste.

Alberta Municipalities has advocated for expanding existing recycling programs and allowing ARMA more independence to manage recycling programs since 2019. We are pleased to see the amendments made by the Minister of Environment and Parks to improve ARMA's operation.

At this year's convention, Alberta Municipalities passed a resolution calling on the provincial government to provide bridge funding for HHW collection until a permanent EPR program is in place. ARMA is an integral part of the HHW collection, and we are encouraged to see that ARMA is working with municipalities to keep the cost down.
