This position reports to the Utility Plant Coordinator.
This position performs daily operational and maintenance functions at the water and wastewater plants, pump houses, reservoirs, and raw water intake facilities.
The position will work 40 hours per week. Must be prepared to work overtime and on-call as required.
Key duties will include:
- Responsible for the daily operations and maintenance of water and wastewater treatment plants, as required by Alberta Environment Regulations and directed by the Manager of Utilities or the Utility Plant Coordinator.
- Responsible for daily operations, upkeep and maintenance of the water treatment plant, wastewater treatment plant, intake structure and reservoirs.
- Assists in maintaining complete records, daily tests, and online reporting results for all water and wastewater facilities as per Alberta Environment License approvals
- Maintains adequate inventory of all chemicals used in the treatment processes for water and wastewater.
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- Must possess and maintain valid Alberta Environment Protection Certification (Level II minimum) in Water Treatment and Wastewater Treatment.
- Requires two years’ experience in Water Treatment and Wastewater Treatment Plants, Lab Operations and requires effective record keeping skills
- Must be familiar with SCADA systems.
- Successful completion of NAIT’s Water and Wastewater Technician Program would be an asset.
Physical Demands and Work Conditions for this position include:
- Frequent lifting and carrying of materials, tools, hoses, test equipment, and parts up to 50 lbs.
- Regular standing, walking, sitting, trunk rotation, forward bending, kneeling, crouching, pushing, and pulling during routine operational and maintenance tasks.
- Working in both indoor and outdoor environments, including exposure to all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow), loud noise, wet or slippery surfaces, and varying temperatures.
- Exposure to treatment chemicals, raw and treated wastewater, pressurized systems, rotating machinery, and biological hazards with appropriate PPE.
