REGIONAL DIRECTOR, BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

Reporting to the Senior Director, Business Development, the Regional Director provides operational leadership, oversight, and hands-on management to the Business Development Regional Managers. This role is responsible for supporting the implementation of new revenue-generating services and identifying strategic opportunities to expand business outcomes and relationships. The Regional Director offers strategic and tactical advice to the leadership team in sales and new service development, in alignment with approved strategic mandates and operational plans. The incumbent contributes to the annual budget process, including sales forecasts, and implements the sales plan to ensure business outcomes are achieved. Building and maintaining positive, effective relationships with various client groups—including business directors, advocacy teams, and service providers—is essential. The Regional Director also fosters strong connections within the Alberta municipal sector, supporting Alberta Municipalities’ services and initiatives.

Know-How

Practical/ Technical Knowledge

  • Post-secondary degree in Business or a related field; equivalent work experience in sales and customer service will also be considered.
  • Progressive experience in sales and customer relations with a proven track record in consultative and customer relations management.
  • Current holder of the following industry licenses, or willingness to attain within the first 12 months of employment:
  • Life License Qualification Program (LLQP)
  • Level 1 General Life Insurance License or equivalent
  • Certified Employee Benefits designation (CEBS)
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in general management, sales and business development.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Knowledge of municipal and not-for-profit organizations is an asset.

 

Planning, Organizing and Integrating

  • Effective business administration skills, with a clear understanding of their application in a project-oriented, member-driven, public-sector environment.
  • Highly organized, with a strong understanding of target audiences and markets.
  • Considerable knowledge of project management, business processes and budgeting. Project Management designation considered an asset
  • Sound judgement and problem-solving skills.

 

Communicating and Influencing Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Dynamic communicator with the ability to establish relationships with relevant customer representatives both internally and externally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain relationships with internal and external customer representatives.
  • Strategic thinking, budgeting, business acumen, coaching for performance, relationship building, and complex decision-making abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to coach, mentor, mediate, and use tact and diplomacy to resolve sensitive matters.
  • Ability to promote services to clients in a compelling and persuasive manner.
  • High level of integrity, with a sense of urgency and results orientation.

 

Responsibilities

  • Support relationships between Alberta Municipalities members and all service portfolios:
  • Benefits Services
  • Insurance Services
  • Natural Gas, Electricity and Green Energy
  • Retirement Services
  • Investment Services
  • Provide continuous in field support and coaching to the Regional Mangers.
  • Travel 50% of the time to promote the service portfolios to existing members and prospective customers.
  • Work closely with the internal business service teams to ensure service levels are achieved and sales targets are met with respect to retaining existing customers and bringing in new business.
  • Works with the service development/innovation area to identify new service opportunities and grow the compliment of services offered to Alberta Municipalities members.
  • Strong focus on developing and nurturing strong business relationships with customers while helping ensure that service levels identified through the various strategic and business plans are achieved.
  • Stay relevant with the various industries by completing ongoing education and licensing requirements.
  • Monitor CRM system for strategic planning and annual sales plans and targets.
  • Represent Alberta Municipalities at various events, tradeshows and conferences throughout the year to develop customer relations, grow awareness of the service portfolios and contribute to annual revenue targets.
  • Support Regional Managers in Requests for Proposal (RFPs), Requests for Qualification (RFQs), Requests for Information (RFIs
  • Provide support at key seminars, workshops or lecture presentations for Alberta Municipalities.
  • Support Regional Managers in Delivering formal presentations to various customer groups including councils, senior administrators, stakeholders and Boards representing Alberta Municipalities.
  • Willingness to work variable hours to support various Alberta Municipalities events throughout the year.
