Facility Operator: Recreation Facility Operator 2 Salary Range - $30.83 – $36.81 per Hour (currently undergoing compensation review) – 40 Hours Per Week
Flexible Availability Required for Days, Evenings and Weekends
The Recreation Facility Operator 2 plays a key role in daily arena and curling ice operations and supporting staff to ensure arena floods are completed on schedule and curling ice maintenance is performed to the highest standard, with safety as a primary focus. The position demonstrates leadership through effective communication, task coordination, and hands-on guidance during ice operations. The approach to these responsibilities reflects a strong commitment to customer service, proactive leadership, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment while supporting safe, well-coordinated facility operations.
SUMMARY OF FUNCTION
1.Ability to make artificial ice and the knowledge of ice maintenance procedures:
•Resurfacing, edging and other ongoing ice maintenance as scheduled
•Ice Resurfacer Operation
•Edger Operation
•Ice Depth measurement
•Ice Chopping/Spudding Leveling the Ice
•Ice Painting (arena and curling)
•Curling ice scraping, flooding, repairing
•Curling ice cleaning, pebbling
2.Advanced knowledge of ice refrigeration equipment, monitor the ice plant regularly and take appropriate actions as necessary for safe operation, maintaining logs with readings and keeping appropriate notes.
3.Assists with and performs minor repairs and routine and preventative maintenance of the ice resurfacer.
4.Performs facility operations and maintenance including opening and closing of the facility, snow removal, grass cutting, custodial duties and day to day operations of the facility.
5.Provides guidance, coaching and training of staff through active contribution and modeling expected behaviors relating to work standards and customer service.
6.Interacts professionally with facility users, addressing inquiries, concerns and emergencies as required.
7.May be required to perform duties outside of their primary responsibilities, to support team organizational goals and evolving business needs.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
1.Grade 12 or equivalent
2.Curling Rink Assistant Ice Technician Certification (Level 1)
3.Head Ice Technician (Level 2)
4.Arena Operator 1&2 certification
5.2-3 years’ experience performing similar work in a recreation environment
6.Building Operator Level 1 is an asset
7.Strong leadership, communication and customer services skills
8.Valid Class 5 Alberta Drivers License
9.Clear RCMP Based Criminal Record check
10.Standard First Aid and CPR
