The Village of Hay Lakes:  The Village of Hay Lakes is in central Alberta located   within driving distance of Edmonton, Sherwood Park, Camrose, Nisku, Leduc and the Edmonton International Airport. A population of approximately 450 people, we have a great school (kindergarten through Grade 12) and easy access to Augustina Campus in Camrose.  Village Council is seeking a to fill the vital role of Administrative/Financial Assistant.

Position Overview:  This position is essential to the positive and professional management of the office.  A person with great organizational and time-management skills that has a basic understanding of municipal governance.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Attend meetings of Council and other committees as required;
  • Assist with the development and administration of the municipal operational and capital budgets;
  • Foster positive relationships with stakeholders, government agencies, industry partners, staff and residents;
  • Answer phones;
  • Sorting and distributing mail;
  • Receipting payments and preparing and invoices;
  • Preparation of and distribution of utility bills;
  • Assist with preparation and distribution of property taxes if required; and
  • Bank Reconciliations; and
  • Assist Financial Manager with any additional tasks

Ideal Candidate:

  • Will be outgoing with diplomacy skills;
  • Adaptable and able to prioritize conflicting responsibilities;
  • Exceptional Organizational and Time Management skills;
  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Have past experience in finance – Municipal finance experience would be an asset;
  • Be attentive to detail;
  • Be committed to lifelong learning;
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills.

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 with some financial management and administrative experience;
  • Minimum 2 years experience in an administrative role within a municipal or public sector organization; and
  • Some Municipal Training (ie:  NACLAA Level 1 or willingness to start program;
  • Basic understanding and with municipal legislation, policies and procedures.

Compensation:

$45,000 to $52,000 dependent on experience and qualifications. Benefits offered through Sunlife (Alberta Municipalities)

Expected Start Date:  December 1, 2024 or earlier if required.
