Parkland Community Planning Services (PCPS), Red Deer

PCPS is a not-for-profit organization that provides a variety of planning consultation services to municipalities, both member and non-member, and also private sector clients. We specialize in municipal land use policy planning, site assessment and design and subdivision services.

 

Position Overview: We are seeking a Junior Planner to join our team for a limited-term position (up to twelve months), with the possibility of extension or transition to a permanent role. The Junior Planner will report to the Director and provide a range of planning services to our member municipalities and clients, focusing on current, long-range, and day-to-day planning.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide guidance on planning matters to municipalities and clients, including development applications, subdivision applications, and land use bylaw amendments.
  • Conduct research, analysis and prepare planning-related documents related to planning policies, land use, and rezoning applications.
  • Organize and lead public consultation and engagement processes, including preparing presentation materials and making presentations to municipal councils, committees, business leaders, and the public.
  • Any other planning related duties or responsibilities that may be assigned by Director.

 

Education and Qualifications:

  • A university degree in planning or a related field, a diploma in land use planning, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong attention to detail, excellent written and oral communication skills, and effective time management abilities.
  • Membership or eligibility for membership in CIP/APPI is an asset.

 

Work Conditions:

  • The position is primarily based in a hybrid office environment in downtown Red Deer. Some travel may be required, including day and evening meetings outside of regular work hours.
  • Occasional site visits may expose the employee to outdoor elements and inclement weather.
  • Candidates must have their own transportation, laptop, and cell phone.
  • Standard work hours are from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM with a one-hour lunch break, totaling 37.5 hours per week.

 

Compensation:

  • Based on experience and qualifications.
