Community Peace Officer 1
The Summer Villages on Sylvan Lake Administration Office is seeking a reliable and organized Community Peace Officer 1 to join our team. Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Community Peace Officer Level I is responsible for enforcing provincial statutes and municipal bylaws for the Summer Villages on Sylvan Lake and investigating inquiries and public complaints.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Enforce municipal bylaws, provincial statutes, and legislation by responding to complaints, initiating investigations, and finalizing complaints. The Community Peace Officer 1 will be responsible for enforcing all bylaws under the purview of Municipal Enforcement, they may also be required to assume responsibilities involving specific services. Those specialist areas include, but are not limited to:

Beach and Boat Launch Patrols

Commercial Vehicle Enforcement

Issue violation tickets, lay charges, process summons and subpoenas, assist with prosecutions, and represent the Municipality in a court of law.

Appear and testify in court if necessary.

Work with and liaise with other departments, branches, prosecutors, and other outside agencies as required.

Apprehend animals, transport animals, and provide safe rescue and release of animals.

Compile records, submit detailed completed reports, and maintain files in a timely manner.

Provide friendly and informative education to the public, relating to municipal bylaws and bylaw services.

Provide an officer’s presence for Council and Municipal meetings or events as necessary.

Maintain equipment and vehicles as required.

Carry out safe work practices and adhere to safety and other work-related regulations; report unsafe and or unsecure situations that may arise.

Perform other related duties as required.

Report to each council at the beginning of each year to obtain goals and objectives specific to each community.

Take direction from the Chief Administrative Officer (C.A.O), including the ability to work day, evening, and weekend shifts.

Provide quarterly reports for each council with ticketing statistics, revenue generated, and a summary of completed and ongoing files/complaints.

Work closely alongside the Development Officer to assist with inspections, issuing stop orders, and fines relating to the Land Use Bylaw.
Requirements/Qualifications:
-
Diploma/Certificate in a law enforcement related field and/or a minimum of 3 years related experience

Completion of Community Peace Officer Induction Program with a certificate (CPOIP)

Meets the full Community Peace Officer Level 1 appointment requirements including legal studies and traffic stop training.

Knowledge of relevant municipal bylaws acts and legislation.

A valid class 5 Alberta Drivers License

Standard First Aid & CPR
-
Excellent communication, teamwork, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills are crucial.

Successful certified completion of the Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (P.A.R.E), current within the last 6 months.

Minimum of 18 years of age

RADAR/LiDAR Certification

Valid Alberta Control Tactics with Baton and OC Spray certification

Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (EVOC)

Clean Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Check

Clean Drivers Abstract
