Role Summary
Reporting directly to Council, the CAO is the senior administrative officer of the County. The CAO is responsible for implementing Council’s direction under the Municipal Government Act and other legislation while ensuring efficient administration, strong financial stewardship, and quality service delivery to residents.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic advice and administrative leadership to Council on policies, programs, and initiatives
- Manage day-to-day operations, including staff leadership, corporate culture, and public service delivery
- Oversee the preparation and management of operating and capital budgets
- Ensure compliance with the MGA, bylaws, and policies while maintaining accurate corporate records
- Build and maintain positive relationships with residents, stakeholders, partners, and neighboring municipalities
- Support strategic planning, service improvements, economic development, and infrastructure/capital planning
Qualifications & Attributes
- Post-secondary education in public administration, business, or related field, or equivalent senior leadership experience
- 8–10 years of progressive management experience in municipal or public sector administration
- Successful completion of NACLAA Levels I and II preferred.
- Strong financial management and ability to present information clearly to Council and the public
- Thorough knowledge of municipal governance, the MGA, and good governance practices
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills with a collaborative, community-focused approach
