BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE AND DATA ANALYST
Reporting to the Senior Director of Project Management and working closely with the Information Technology team, this role plays a pivotal part in driving data-informed decision-making across the organization. The successful candidate will bring deep expertise in data analysis, business intelligence, and reporting, leveraging tools such as Power BI, Tableau, and SQL to transform complex datasets into actionable insights. With a strong foundation in data governance, data architecture, cloud-based platforms, and cross-functional collaboration, this role supports strategic initiatives by designing scalable reporting solutions, enhancing data quality, literacy, and contributing to continuous process improvement.

Know-How
Practical/ Technical Knowledge
- A post-secondary degree or diploma in Business Administration, Computing Sciences, Data Science, Business Intelligence, Statistics, or another relevant discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in data analysis, business intelligence, reporting and dashboard creation.
- Proven experience working with large datasets and collaborating with cross-functional teams to gather and translate business requirements.
- Experience with BI tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.
- Proficiency in SQL for data extraction and manipulation. Write and optimize SQL queries to extract and manipulate data from various sources.
- Familiarity with Python or R for data analysis.
- Understanding and ability to lead data governance, data quality, and best practices in data management.
- Experience with data warehousing concepts, ETL processes and cloud-based data platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS) is an asset.
- Experience with complex data collection, interpretation, and presentation.
- Experience with system integrations and methods of transferring data between systems.
- Proven ability to lead or contribute to business process improvement projects.
- Analyze large datasets to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for improvement.
- Present findings and recommendations to stakeholders in a clear and compelling manner.
- Experience with Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Azure Data Lake, and Microsoft Azure Data Warehouse technology stack.
- Experience in documenting data architecture is an asset.
- Knowledge of data privacy, security, and regulatory compliance
- Experience with data modeling techniques (e.g., star schema, snowflake schema, dimensional modeling) to support scalable and high-performance reporting solutions.
- Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) and deployment pipelines for BI assets.
- Knowledge of Insurance, Benefit Administration or Pension systems and experience is considered an asset.
- Certifications in the following would be an asset:
- Certified Business Intelligence Professional (CBIP)
- Certification in Business Data Analytics (CBDA – IIBA)
- Microsoft certifications related to data (e.g., DP-900, DP-500)
- Certification in Business Analyst (CBAP)

Responsibilities
- Translate business requirements into clear and scalable technical reporting specifications.
- Design, build, and maintain interactive dashboards and reports using tools such as Power BI, Tableau, and Excel.
- Analyze large and complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and actionable insights that support business decision-making.
- Support ad hoc reporting needs across departments, ensuring timely and accurate data delivery.
- Monitor end-user reporting tools and systems, ensuring reports are accurate and up to date.
- Support system integration initiatives by facilitating data quality assessment, data mapping and transformation, data cleanup, data migration, and data validation/quality assurance.
- Provide training and support to end users on reporting tools and data best practices.
- Promote and support data literacy initiatives across the organization to empower data-driven culture.
- Self-educate on industry updates i.e., read industry publications, maintain personal networks, participate in professional organizations, participate in educational opportunities.
- Identify opportunities to automate reporting and improve operational efficiency.
- Develop and maintain documentation for reports, dashboards, data sources, and data definitions.
