Job Description

The Town of Redcliff, a thriving horticultural and industrial based community of approximately 5500 progressive residents, with excellent recreation facilities, presently has the following position available with the Planning and Operations Department.

Under the direction of the Planning and Operations Director, the Heavy-Duty Technician will carry out duties primarily associated with the maintenance and repairs of the municipality’s fleet of automotive, light and heavy-duty equipment. They will carry out duties associated with the purchasing and ordering of parts, supplies, and equipment consistent to the Town of Redcliff Purchasing Policy and the current department budget.

Major Responsibilities:
Operational

  1. Required to maintain and repair the municipality's fleet of automotive, light, and heavy-duty equipment.
  2. Responsible to implement and monitor regular preventive maintenance programs for the municipality's fleet of automotive, light, and heavy-duty equipment.
  3. Required to conduct vehicle inspections in compliance with the Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program of Alberta Transportation and Utilities.
  4. Responsible for maintaining inventory of fuels, parts and supplies for the department’s vehicles and equipment.
  5. Operates light and heavy-duty equipment for the purpose of maintenance and/or construction of the municipality's infrastructure and facilities.
  6. Performs the actual physical labour as required for the maintenance or construction of all municipal facilities and infrastructures.
  7. Performs routine maintenance on equipment and facilities as required and directed by the supervisor.
  8. Ensures that a positive public image is portrayed to the public indicating the municipality's commitment to excellence in service for the residents of the Town of Redcliff.
  9. Responsible for ensuring adequate on-site safety procedures and regulations are practiced as they pertain to operations of the municipality.
  10. Assists with other duties related to the operation of the Public Services Department as required.
  11. May be required to participate in a rotating schedule for after-hours stand by and call out duties.
  12. The successful candidate must provide their own tools.
  13. Apprenticeship with first to fourth year will be considered and wages will correspond with the current collective agreement
  14. Other related duties as assigned from time to time

Qualifications:

  1. Alberta Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent
  2. Heavy Equipment Technician – Heavy Duty Equipment Technician (Off Road) Red Seal
  3. Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program Certified
  4. Minimum three to five years’ experience in shop and field
  5. Class 3 License with Q endorsement
  6. TDG Certification
  7. WHMIS training
  8. Strong problem solving, decision making and analytical skills
  9. Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
  10. Demonstrated ability in the following areas:
  11. Maintenance and repair of all equipment associated with municipal operations
  12. Experience with preventative maintenance programs
  13. Ability to competently perform welding operations
  14. Must be able to perform the tasks, activities and functions associated with the position
  15. Team oriented with an open communication style
  16. Attention to detail with a high level of accuracy
  17. Strong prioritizing and multi-tasking skills
  18. Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding department and municipal matters
  19. Ability to follow mentor apprentice and problem solve
  20. Criminal records check in accordance with Policy 55.
  21. Drivers abstract acceptable to Municipal Manager.

Salary range for this position will be $71,094.40 to $79,560.00. The Town of Redcliff also offers an attractive benefits package and participation in its pension plan.
