Update from the Legislature – May 8, 2024

The Legislature resumed on Monday, following a constituency week. During the break, the Minister of Municipal Affairs announced that changes to Bill 20, the Municipal Statutes Amendment Act, are under consideration.

Alberta Municipalities expressed its willingness to work with the provincial government to develop meaningful amendments that address the concerns of our members. Members are invited to participate in a virtual town hall meeting at 12:30 p.m. today for an overview of the proposed amendments and to discuss the changes we are seeking. Members are also encouraged to review ABmunis’ preliminary analysis on our Keep Local Elections Local web page.
